Balance Assessment Equipment: Posturography
Posturography is an integral part of the evaluation of patients with dizziness and unsteadiness. Posturography serves as a test of a person's stability in a variety of situations. It provides the physical therapist with information vital to a complete diagnosis and effective treatment plan for patients at risk of falling.

Posturography analyzes patient gait and stability by measuring vertical force and horizontal movement. These measurements are used to calculate the patient's functional balance control and limits of stability. By combining results with a thorough case history, physical examination, and VNG evaluation, clinicians can effectively identify patients who are at risk for falling and create a customized treatment program.

Modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction on Balance(mCTSIB) The mCTSIB is a modified, computerized version of the standard CTSIB (foam and dome test). For this test, postural sway is measured with eyes open and eyes closed on firm and unstable (with foam) surfaces. These four conditions are designed to reflect the variety of conditions patient may face in daily life activities. Scores outside normal limits indicate surface conditions that give the patient more difficulty and help the therapist establish a course of treatment. This test may be repeated to document progress during therapy.

Limits of Stability (LOS) The limits of stability test quantifies the degree to which a person can displace their center of gravity without losing balance. Our posturography system measures reaction time, center of gravity movement velocity, directional control, end point excursion, and maximum excursion.
